Immigrants
We connect with many local immigrants in a variety of capacities. For those seeking assistance, we refer them to needed services and providers in the area. When we evaluate or are looking to new initiatives, we often consult local immigrants to ensure we’re providing what is necessary and of interest. We also work to celebrate, recognize, and welcome immigrants new and old, to our region.
Local Residents
We work with our local residents, immigrants and born-Canadians, to ensure our communities are welcoming. We use a variety of programs, like We Are Neighbours, to promote the diversity of the peoples, ways of life, and experiences here. We help recognize those who make a difference in our area.
Businesses
We work with local employment and economic development agencies to assist Leeds and Grenville businesses in developing and maintaining culturally diverse workforces. We coordinate trainings on how to improve equity, diversity, and inclusion. We connect local employers with those who can help fill labour shortages through immigrant workers, local, national, or abroad. We work with businesses to help them appeal to wider audiences by making changes to be more inclusive.
Community Agencies & Service Providers
We help connect various community agencies and service providers to one another, local immigrants, and various interested parties. We work with them to identify service gaps, places they can create joint initiatives, and how they can better service our local immigrants. We also raise awareness, develop resources, and help promote their programs.
Training
We offer trainings to employers, service providers, and other community members. These trainings have run the range from how to hire and retain immigrant employees, to how to improve equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace, services for new immigrants, and an individual focus on intercultural competency. Community needs dictate what trainings and when we offer them, but we can be contacted if a specific training is of interest, and we can see if it’s something we can assist with.
Educational Games
We create and lend out a variety of educational games that focus on immigration, equity, diversity, and inclusion. These include our immigrant settlement journey board game, our privilege board game, and our attraction and retention game. These games are free to borrow. Please contact us to learn more.
Diversity Day
We host our annual Diversity Day, a learning and networking conference that focuses on a different topics important to our local communities. It features immigrant speakers, local and/or national presenters, networking opportunities, and a topical game. A free event, it’s held in late fall annually, and is open to everyone.
Volunteer Translator List
We maintain a volunteer translator list that is updated annually. This list is available for service providers, local immigrants, and anyone else who might be in need of assistance understanding or being understood while navigating various activities. Our volunteers have assisted with opening bank accounts, speaking to medical professionals, understanding job postings, and more. We are always open to adding new languages and new volunteers to the list. Please contact us if you would like a copy of this list.
